President's Message
January 2025

“A year’s end is neither an end or a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us” Hal Borland

With each new year, we look forward to fresh starts, new possibilities, and all of the enthusiasm felt with beginning anew. When I was a little girl, many of my resolutions always seemed to focus on becoming better at something but I couldn’t become better at something without a foundation- past experience from which to draw. Since June, 2024, I have learned many things as the NIGC President and I expect to continue to learn more in 2025. My NIGC foundation is growing and will become stronger as I add all that I learn from the many NIGC activities in 2025. I’ve been fortunate, as I participated in committees and their projects in 2024, to witness our members’ enthusiasm, good humor, collaboration, and hard work- from the Veterans Day Commemoration, to the Blooming Bridges Project, to the Luminary Night Celebration, to the Winter Wonderland Luncheon, to the Beautification projects. The programs arranged by 1st Vice President, Esther Duran and our excursion to Lotus Land planned by Sandy Davidson and Pam McCredie were informational as well as fun. One 2025 resolution for me would be to continue to learn, to continue to add to my NIGC foundation. I look forward to your ideas for new projects as well as participating in our future events-Arbor Day, the NIGC Flower Show, and the June Luncheon.
Join me in 2025 and we can build our foundations together.

Naples Islands Garden Club History
The fertile soil and gentle climate of the South were perhaps the reason the first garden club in America was founded there. The Ladies Garden Club of America was formed in 1891 in Athens, GA. Garden clubs quickly expanded throughout the South and then across our nation. The National Garden Club, of which we are members, was established in 1929. These clubs were not just concerned with teas and genteel Flower Shows or improvement of members’ private gardens. Many clubs were the earliest advocates of civic beautification, planting of street trees, maintenance of parks, and campaigns against blight especially billboards. Restoration and maintenance of nearby historic gardens was also a priority of many clubs.
