Preparation for Arbor Day 2023
On January 6th, after a number of rainy days, the sun shone on a small group of red apron ladies who met and witnessed a new 24-gallon crepe myrtle being planted in the street parkway in front of the Naples Elementary School auditorium. Last year NIGC had two crepe myrtle trees planted in front of the school library for our Arbor Day event and the Board decided to continue this tradition of donating a tree for Arbor Day, 2023. Moon Valley Nursery transported and planted the tree but NIGC will continue to care for the myrtle throughout the year. NIGC President Deborah Smith brought brewed coffee for NIGC members and Moon Valley workers, Carmela, Joseph, and Mike. Thanks to NIGC members Sandy D., Ruth S., Lynne M., and Trish S., for representing NIGC and recognizing the importance of “gathering, gardening, and giving.”
